Birth international, Australia
The first part of this video shows a number of women labouring and
giving birth in a clinic in Austria. The birth room is set with
a huge mattress (no bed!) and a variety of equipment, including
birth ball, birth stool, hanging rope and a support ladder. Using
these, the women mostly give birth in upright positions, supported
by the fathers. The montage of labours is accompanied by gentle
music, the pictures tell the story. Ideal for prenatal classes.
The second part uses animated computer graphics to illustrate the
physiology of labour and the cardinal movements of birth. It offers
simple, clear explanations of the various stages, with the emphasis
on normal, active birth in upright positions. This part would be
useful for midwifery students. Highly recommended!

As a socialized "outsider" to the birthing process, I
found "Giving Birth and Being Born" to be an encouraging
perspective into the roles that men as partners play in labor. I
watched the film with my partner and felt secure that the experience
would make our relationship a more intimate and mutually satisfying
experience.

Prepare for natural childbirth, June 4, 2002
I watched this video several times in preparation of the birth of
my first child and really loved it. As I had my mind set for an
unmedicated natural childbirth I found it extremely helpful to see
other women coping with labor and delivery without using drugs.
It shows very nicely how essential moral support from husbands,
as well as the medical staff is to make labor a unique and positive
experience. I would definitifely recommend this video to everybody
who is interested in natural childbirth. It helps to understand
the stages of labor and childbirth and reduces anxiety quite a lot.

Completely Useful and Informative, March 6, 2002
I watched this video with my husband when we were pregnant on the
advise of a friend. Niether my husband nor I had much experience
with the birth process and we found this video full of extremely
benefical to our understanding what occurs, and also when things
occur. I had watched television programs on giving birth, but this
was undoubted the best that I had seen to date. Now, after having
had my child, I can also say it was the most realistic. Thanks!
